Update May 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 4th May 2022
I reviewed these notes in earl May of 2022. Firstly, thank you all for the notes left below - combined they give a very good idea of what to expect here. I've only had to change the prices here the rest is as was though I can't find the video they once had
Fuel
Written by JerryG | 16th Sep 2021
The self service fuel berth is fine, once you work out how to use it. However, visiting yachts pay about 28p per litre more for diesel or petrol than resident berth holders do; which makes it very expensive.
Busy. Dark. Wet.

Very busy when we arrived, chiefly due to 30 or so boats on our rally. But the lockkeeper kept a cool head and was very patient with us all, using the locks alternately to get us all in. Heads and showers v good. Laundrette expensive - same price as public ones whereas marina ones are usually much cheaper. Fuel is not only self-service, but also pay at the pump only - and expensive. There was a power cut while we were there - apparently someone put a digger through a cable and blacked out half the town.
We found the nearby chippy perfectly adequate , and the monster Asda close enough to get the ice back on board before it melted. And it rained. A lot. Useful for finding leaks.

UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 17th Mar 2021
These notes were reviewed in March 2021. Be very careful going from the Red/White Initial point buoy to the harbour mouth as I have found three versions of the buoyage all purporting to be up-to-date. The best version is the Admiralty Vector chart reproduced in the Approach section of this page. The Admiralty paper chart does not show all the buoyage and the Navionics shows buoyage that does not exist.. Prices have changed. I have added a video of the marina and its surroundings.

UPDATE SPRING 2018
Written by Don Thomson | 28th Mar 2018
There is more up-to-date information on the charts re depths in the approach. Prices for visitors haven't changed.
To clarify the note by Jaypea last spring (below); they were indeed short staffed in the early spring of last year but that has been rectified and our members can expect to have a full welcome this summer as they not only have a full staff on already but increase that for the summer.

Soveriegn Harbour is accessible virtually 24 hours
Written by Trevor Gurr | 13th Sep 2017
Just to make things clear I'm a annual berth-holder and have found the marina very good. The locks and office are accessible 24 hours, on the rare chance that the lock keeper has been called away they will not have gone far, I have entered the marina myself at all hours of the night with no problems. If you are deep keeled and trying to enter on spring low tide then you may have depth problems but isn't that a bit of bad judgement on your behalf. The local marine companies are open usual business hours. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the local chippy, there are some great chippies in Eastbourne a short distance away and other eating, drinking establishments, many I could recommend.
Update on facilities and an unimpressive service
Written by Jaypea | 11th May 2017
Overnight stay 2nd April. They were clearly short-staffed which may have had a bearing on procedure though we spoke to a couple of berth holders who, whilst disappointed, weren't surprised.
If unfamiliar with the place, as we were, don't take anything for granted!
NO allocation of berth or guidance after requesting entry to lock, we had to make second radio enquiry.
Sparse details given of marina facilities but [after request] we were issued with WiFi code which is free to use. Washroom facilities were excellent. Free electricity hook-up. Good food options on marina site. The chandlers and boatyard service company are closed Sundays and Mondays....queried whether this was 'pre-season' hours and was told not so don't rely on it during the summer. Over dinner we realised we hadn't clarified a few things but found the office locked at 20.30 with no staff to be found anywhere and no indication of hours/return.

Update Spring 2016
Written by dononshytalk | 18th Mar 2016
These notes were reviewed by Don in Spring 2016. I have noticed an anomaly in the charting of the harbour entrance. Some recent charts have been showing the first SHM inbound as being in the red sector of the lead in lights. UKHO is looking into this but in the meantime local information is that that buoy has never been moved and is still to starboard of the required track into the entrance. Prices have been updated for the 2016 season
Update April 2014

Correction re. DIY store
Written by Bryant | 24th Apr 2013
"Sovereign Yacht Harbour does not have a DIY store in proximity as stated
in your text. There are Wickes, Homebase and B&Q stores a short 2 to 3
mile taxi ride away in Eastbourne. There is an Asda 24 hour superstore,
Next, Boots Chemist, JD Sports, Matalan, Poundland, Harveys furniture,
Brentanos shoes and Cinemax all within 150 yds of the yacht club. On the
Waterfront adjoining the Inner harbour can be found a Harvester pub &
restaurant, Thai, Italian Indian and Spanish/Mexican restaurants as well
as a huge gift store, coffee shop, wine bar, hairdresser, dentist and
fish& chip take away.
There is a local Eurotek Chandlery, Southern Shipwrights Ltd boat
maintenance yard, Bates Southern yacht brokerage and several service
businesses.
Sovereign Harbour Premier Marinas office tel no is 01323 470099
Hope this helps."
