Thorney Channel and Bosham
Written by Tyro Sailor | 10th Sep 2022
I sailed up here earlier this summer and was surprised to find much of the central part taken up by moorings which weren't there last year. Shame really, since I was hoping to anchor thereabouts. In the end, since the wind was southerly I went right up to Pinstead Channel (the eastern branch leading to Thornham Marina) and dropped the hook inshore (east) of the few moorings there, close to the drying line. A peaceful night. Excellent for shoal draft and twin-keel boats; less so if you have a deep fin keel.

At Bosham, where I've spent two or three nights in recent years, the Quaymaster was quite keen to collect his (or sometimes her) pound of flesh, but has always been very helpful. The lady in the ice-cream shop was kind enough to freeze some bottles of water overnight to cool my coldbox.
There's some historical interest here as it's where Earl (later King) Harold II embarked for hs visit to William Duke of Normandy in 1064, an event depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
Update March 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 17th Mar 2022
I reviewed these notes in March 2022. Prices have changed across the board and our charts show the latest buoyage. There is a mass of information to be gleaned about this waterway from the various yacht club websites to which we have given links so it's worth spending a bit of time perusing them if you intend visiting- even though we have tried to compress all the vital info for your safety and pleasure here!

Update Spring 2020
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 6th Mar 2020
There has been very little change in this area of Chichester harbour. Thornham Marina are still working at replacing the café that was burnt down and have put up their fees a little since 2018. There are new charges for 2020 and links have been given to the Conservancy Boards web site for those. This years chart has been uploaded.
UPDATE SPRING 2018
Written by Don Thomson | 15th Mar 2018
We have had information on Harbour dues from the Conservancy Board which says that "as a visitor, if you are paying one of the Chichester Harbour marinas an overnight visitor fee this will include our visitor harbour dues fee for up to one month. You can visit numerous marinas within this first month."

Update Spring 2016
Written by dononshytalk | 7th Mar 2016
These notes were reviewed by Don in March 2016. Very little has changed here; the basic £4.00 per night harbour dues have not changed and that would apply in anchorages; where you tie up to a mooring or on the Itchenor pontoon there would be mooring charge. You need to make sure that, whoever demands monies of you to park, the "harbour dues" have been included.
Update March 2014
Written by dononshytalk | 27th Mar 2014
These notes were reviewed in March and the prices quoted are for the 2014 season. The notices on buoyage changes have been left in as a warning to anyone returning after a few years on an old chart!!
Update January 2013

The Chichester Harbour Central Section was updated by Don T on the 9th January 2013. Where known the prices have been corrected for the 2013 season.
