Update April 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 26th Apr 2022
I reviewed these notes near the end of April 2022. There is the usual increase in prices but, compared to Poole it is cheap. The whole harbour is a hive of Leisure activity during the day and at weekends but there is not much night life; for that you'd need to go to Weymouth (where all us matelots used to go!!)
UPDATE SPRING 2021

I reviewed these notes in April 2021. No changes apart from prices. The Harbour says it is servicing "about 800" commercial vessels per year now - which means a couple per day so keep your eyes open.

A while ago now, but this won't have changed.

Enormous harbour, enormous marina. The visitors' berths are near the marina entrance and miles from the office and loos. It's not insignificant that the staff have bikes to get around the wide pontoons.
The heads and showers etc., when you get there, are v good. You may need to plan ahead.
As far as I can see, the only advantage Portland has over Weymouth is its proximity to the Bill.

They have a new dry stack at the marina. The prices have gone up. We have chatted to the HM and been told that the East Channel can be used by yachts as long as they seek permission on #74 and there is no commercial activity.
