Not all is well here.

Recent visit to Aberystwyth Marina prompted some advance research on line. It is evident that the owners of the marina are neglecting some crucial aspects of it. Not least they have not paid some of their staff for many weeks. The staff are really helpful and go out of their way to assist. One was extremely apologetic as the price per meter had increased to £5.00. However by the afternoon of our second day that price had come down, but still expensive for a marina in which access is limited to a 3 hours either side highwater. He hadn’t been paid for nearly 9 weeks. He continues to work out of loyalty to his customers on the marina. A great pity the owners do not show the same loyalty to their staff and customers. Aberystwyth is well worth a visit, unless the situation in the marina improves that will not be possible soon.

I reviewed these notes in September 2022. Very little change apart from the tariff. We have been hearing very favourable reports about this harbour.

I reviewed these notes in July of 2021. The Marina is now run by the Marine Group but, other than that little has changed.

After night stop enroute Whitehaven Falmouth would highly rate this location. Friendly efficient staff, very fine facilities and simple access to visitors pontoon after long day at sea. Recommend without reservation.cheers Pete

Written by dononshytalk | 7th Apr 2016
These notes were reviewed by Don in April 2016. We have changed the close in approach instructions on advice from the Marina and included pictures of the approach from their web site. They intend to change the layout later this year.

These notes were updated by Don T on the 20th February 2013. Prices have been up dated for the 2013 season. They say they have about 2 meters and will be due another dredge next year (2014?)

Local Hazzards Approaching Aber
Written by Firstmate | 14th Jan 2013
Lobster and Crab fishing as well as some gill net fishing is carried out in Cardigan Bay. Fishermen set traps and nets on the sea floor and anchor them to floats at the surface.

Lookout should be exercised in shallow waters for buoys, floats and flag markers used by fishermen to mark their equipment. They usually occur in pairs for professional fishers. Amateurs can (and do) use almost anything that floats as floats.

Sadly a few fishers leave stray lines near their pots which could foul your props.

Tom Webb, around Britain on a 21' Beneteau 2011

15-16/8 – Aberystwyth – Aber can be tricky to enter in onshore breezes due to rocks on the inside of each break water in the entrance, this also creates a problem when entering in low water as it does get very shallow and the channel becomes very small to enter safely, the marina is small but well protected and there is a convenient chandlery which the office staff are situated. Abers well worth a visit as it seems to have a pub at every corner..
