These notes were reviewed in April 2022 and no changes were made - except to one unfortunate hyperlink.
UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 8th Apr 2021
I reviewed these notes in April 2021. I've added some extra websites on the facilities and updated prices where possible.
Calstock and Morwellham
Written by Tyro Sailor | 15th Mar 2021
If you fancy a longish motor up river, the viaduct at Calstock is spectacular. Once through (masses of clearance) there are (or were in 2018) four mooring buoys in the middle of the river. Beware of strong tidal streams, even this far up. There's also a rickety wooden jetty, fine for dinghies but it doesn't look terribly secure for a yacht.
Ashore, there's a friendly social club and a pub with good beer and friendly barmaid. No showers though, that I could find.

A few miles further up the Tamar is Morwellham Quay where copper, arsenic and other valuable minerals were loaded for transport and export in former times. It's now one of those 'living museums' with a variety of industrial attractions. I was permitted to moor for nothing on the (now grass-covered) quay itself but long lines are required, since the only mooring posts are several yards back. Good café/pub with excellent carrot cake.

UPDATE SPRING 2018
Written by Don Thomson | 1st May 2018
I've updated some of the prices and removed the reference to the "Crooked Spaniard"
Spaniard's Inn, Cargreen
Written by Lilliburlero | 9th Sep 2016
I understood that the Spaniards had closed some years ago, and therefore no moorings will be available there. And no beer!
Ed Note: this is, in fact, true - closed quite a while ago

No Dinghy Park
Written by dslittle | 1st Aug 2015
Having spent a couple of nice days on a Royal Western Ycht Club buoy just North of Mount Batten, the only unfortunate thing to say is that there is no dinghy dock anywhere on the North shore. RWYC suggested using QAB to land. QAB wanted £8.50 for four hours to moor the dinghy. A real shame as we wanted to visit ashore and then revictual the boat. How can the City be so shortsighted???
