Update June 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 18th Jun 2022
I reviewed these notes in June 2022. Be aware that the buoyage on the approach charts is overlaid on the depth surveys for earlier years so follow the buoyage that you see on the ground, not the contours on the charts. I was made aware that even the buoyage as shown on the charts has had minor changes once already this summer.
UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 13th May 2021
I reviewed these notes in May 2021. I've crosschecked the UKHO and Navionics charts for this area and they are now in alignment (stand fast Navionics for Wells). Note the changes in the text reference Sutton Bridge and the adjacent marina. Prices and facilities are unchanged.
Update 2019
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 25th Apr 2019
These notes were updated in April 2019. I've put this years charts up in the chart gallery and you should cross check your chart plotter against these as there may be conflictions between those and Navionics reference the positions of RM2 and RM4 by the Roaring Middle Sand Bank.
UPDATE APRIL 2017
Written by Don Thomson | 3rd Apr 2017
These notes were reviewed by Don in April 2017. There are two major changes around here a) they've changed the outer channel to the eastern side of the Outer Westmark Knock which has involved the movement of the Wisbeach N1 starboard lateral mark and the Nenes Road R/W buoy and b) The marina below Sutton bridge is now open but is pretty well fully occupied by permanent moorings. There are still a couple of moorings there to lie and wait for the bridge swing. Oh - and the price has gone up 10p a metre!
Sutton Bridge..NOT on demand
Written by Bryant | 15th Jan 2016
"Important information regarding the operation of the Swingbridge on the River Nene at Sutton Bridge on the approach to the port of Wisbech Cambs.

Please be advised that as of the 1st April 2016 the above bridge will no longer be available to swing "on demand". From this date the bridge will only be manned routinely for 4hrs +/- high water. In addition, in periods of low shipping activity the bridge may not be manned on certain states of the tide allowing staff to undertake routine maintenance works during normal working hours.

It is therefore essential that all vessels requiring passage through the bridge book at least 24hrs in advance in order to guarantee uninterrupted passage. Bookings can currently be made via the published telephone
number. It is intended that an on line booking form will be available by the 1st April

I would be grateful if you would amend you information page accordingly. Alan Aistrup Special Projects Manager Lincolnshire County Council"

Update November 2015
Written by dononshytalk | 20th Nov 2015
As far as we can gather the proposed Marina at Sutton Bridge is now in the hands of the Lincolnshire County Council who have recently lodged a new planning Proposal with the local Council. We'll attempt to keep you abreast of developments.
Update 2015
Written by dononshytalk | 13th Mar 2015
These notes were reviewed by Don in March 2015 and, outwardly nothing has changed except for the daily rate at Wisbech going up by 10p for the 2015 season. Since we made the notes in 2013 the hoped for development at Sutton Bridge ground to a halt and is only now reaching the stage of putting pontoons in the water by this spring (hopefully!!)
Update 2013
Written by dononshytalk | 15th Apr 2013
These notes were updated by Don T on the 15th April 2013. Little has changed at Wisbech but the establishment of a new marina at Sutton Bridge will, when completed, offer alternatives to passage planning hitherto unavailable. It is to be expected that for 2013 the Nene Marina will be very much a bare bones facility and, in 2013, the wise skipper would contact them to find out at what stage they are in the developement before passage planning with them as a destination.
