The Channel to the North of Gasay Island has been declared as Rule 9 and vessels over 20m in length or 3m draft should be considered as "constrained by their draft"  This includes all the Calmac ferries to and fro the Roro jetty.  All vessels to which Rule 9 applies will broadcast their intentions on #16 and smaller vessels should give way to them. In addition the PHM on the marina breakwater has been augmented with Red traffic lights. When these are at red no vessel may leave the marina. ... read more

Update Spring 2019
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 22nd May 2019
These notes were reviewed in May 2019. This development is proving popular but provisioning still remains a problem. Price has gone up and we've added new charts.
Update May 2017

We have made a number of visits here and found the Harbour Master (Col) and Port Manager (Donald) to be most helpful. Wifi available. In 2017 Donald was fitting out a cabin as a shop selling basic provisions. The Post Office has a café, with wifi, that serves wicked cakes. Car hire can be arranged by Donald.

I reviewed these notes in April 2017. They've changed their pricing system for visiting boats. They are still struggling with the infra structure ashore; it's a brilliant, sheltered marina but it's separated from the rest of the islands by miles of roads and there is nothing here apart from the hotel.

update Autumn 2016
Written by dononshytalk | 17th Oct 2016
The Harbour has issued two Notices to Mariners concerning the navigation of vessels constrained by their draft. We have summarised these NtMs in red at the beginning of the Approach section of these notes and hope to have a chartlet delineating the area concerned idc
