Sulnox tests:
My own test results on a Smart CDI. 799cc diesel 52 Hp engine. Consumption calculated by brimming fuel tank at each fill up (same fuel station, same pump)., and calculating mpg from trip mileage and diesel purchased. Car used for same commuter journeys on Isle of Wight, no motorway use. Fill ups range between 188 miles and 332 miles use.
7th Dec 58.67 mpg
20th Dec 63.49 mpg
16th Jan 61.3 mpg
28th Jan 60.88 mpg
7th Feb 60.1 mpg SULNOX now put in
16th Feb 63.58 mpg
28th Feb 62.75 mpg
15th March 66.13 mpg
21st March 66.43 mpg
4th April 67.67 mpg
27th April 66.90 mpg
16th May 69.08 mpg
This shows a 8+% fuel saving, which certainly pays for the Sulnox... 0.5 cc per litre. (2000:1). Noticeable difference in engine smoothness and tickover from 1st application. Greater torque at lower revs. DPF regens now getting done in 6 miles.. instead of 10. Have had this car for 6 years now and done about 60,000 miles in it, so know it well, and have always monitored fuel consumption. Fuel consumption improvements improving with each fill up, as the engine is gently being carbon cleaned by Sulnox.
Case studies and tests:
Static generator tests showing 14% fuel savings
Conclusion:
My own tests show it's working....This is something you can test for yourself in your diesel car/van or boat. Try it, test it, use it.
In my opinion this is a great British invention (different from all other additives), which has a vast potential in a worldwide market. The company has a strong marine product. For small boat owners, it can solve the diesel bug issue, improve fuel economy, and pay for itself. If you have a chance, it's worth exploring Sulnox online before your first purchase.
Notes about my Smart 451 Pulse* CDI :
These cars are Marmite.. love them or hate them. Two persons only, although a lot more leg room, etc. than most small cars. Good storage capacity. Rear mounted 799cc 3 cylinder Mercedes common rail diesel, Euro 5. Good torque, not revvy. £0 road tax (up till now..), and cheap insurance. Top speed pushing 90 mph, OK for long motorway drives, keeps up with the traffic, no problem.
Automatic gearbox takes a little getting used to, can be over-ridden and used with paddle style gearchange on the steering wheel.
No power steering (doesn't need), good brakes and handling gives these cars a very direct "Go-Kart" like feel when driving..makes for a very enjoyable driving experience. Cute iconic looks, brings a smile.
I've had this 2010 car 7+ years, and driven about 60,000 miles in it now. The only problem I've had (which did not stop the car), was intermittent limp mode, later followed by warning light.. casued by carbon build-up in the EGR valve housing/pipework. Otherwise totally reliable, use every day, in all weather.
In short, this is my favourite car I've ever owned. (And I've had a few, like a Mitsubishi GTO..) I've kept it longer than any other car I've had, and intend to see if I can get at least another 6 years out of it. If I did have to get rid of it, I would be looking to buy another example with lower mileage.
Economy: Official figures are about 82 mpg. Have never had over 70 mpg ever.. even on long mainland motorway cruises. Start stop local use, about 60 mpg in winter, 65 mpg in summer. Be interesting to see what the Sulnox does this summer.
*The Pulse has wider wheels than the standard Passion models, bit sportier.
