HOW TO use your iPad or Android tablet as a cockpit repeater

What a great idea, now by purchasing a cheap application, you can use your iPad or Android tablet as a cockpit repeater for SeaClear.

The video show the iPad, a version for Android is available too.

This is how it works and could be used... You purchase the app and install it on your tablet. You download and install a corresponding program for your Windows PC/Laptop (SeaClear only works with Windows)

You install your laptop safely down at your chart table , well away from splashes, running SeaClear and connected to your GPS/AIS/Mobile Broadband etc., as required.

Now when you are out in the cockpit you connect your tablet (via WiFi) to the laptop, using this app. Note, SeaClear is a lightweight program and will work with this, the slave monitor (iPad/Android) may not be good for videos, games etc.

On you tablet screen you will have exactly what you have on your laptop. What's more you can control and react with your laptop as if you were using it. Make routes, waypoints, change charts etc. You can even use an onscreen keyboard to interact with your laptop.

If you could rig a waterproof case for your tablet you'd have the perfect cockpit repeater, and this kind of use is certainly allowed in the Terms and Conditions for our SeaClear charts and VisiCharts.

"I already use sea clear displayed on an iPad 2 The iPad connects to my laptop via wifi using an app called idisplay. Sea clear is controlled on the iPad using touch screen who's commands are relayed back to SeaClear on the Laptop A double tap in the iPad brings up the keyboard if need to enter text or data to sea clear. cheap water proof cases are available for the iPad the best of which is the otter box which i will be testing. I have managed get 8 hours of battery life on the iPad with wifi enabled. Sunlight viewing is ok but not good in direct sunshine.
