Download free charts for SeaClear (USA and Brazil Coverage)

SeaClear is a free downloadable chart plotting program. It is fully featured, enabling you to plot your position on a chart (providing you have a compatible GPS input or dongle).

Passage planning, routes and waypoints can all be handled, plus AIS overlaid. One of the big advantages is its MapCal facility which enables you to scan and geo-reference your own collection of paper charts and use them within the chart plotter.

Certain hydrographic offices have made their charts freely available in the BSB format, and these charts can be made to work within SeaClear. The process is not straightforwards, unless you have plenty of experience with this program. You are more than welcome to gather all the bits needed yourselves, and try to fit them together so that it all works !

To get these FREE BSB charts direct from the official sources, Google "NOAA" (all US charts), or "DHN Brazil" (all Brazilian charts). Dig around on their sites and you will be able to download bang up-to-date official charts.

We have already done this, and embedded their charts within SeaClear...to give a package that will work straight away.

They come wrapped in a zipped folder, and to make them work it is necessary to extract the files from the zipped folder and place them on your desktop. The American downloads consist of five separate items, the Brazilian download consists of four items. Providing the items are placed on your desktop as specified, all should be up and running straight away.

These are very large downloads, so you will need broadband speeds to attempt them.

Brazil, a selection of over 200 charts from DHN-Brazil. They cover all the Brazilian coastline, with extended small scale coverage as far north as Trinidad, and as far south as Montivedo. Charts are dated Oct 2010.
