2017 Android Charts by download: 7.99 / 14.99 UK / Ireland

This is now the 2017 edition you are downloading...

VisitMyHarbour are proud to announce our first "For Navigation" chart product available by download, a complete set of UK/Ireland charts (800+) compatible with "Marine Navigator" app for Android devices. Having had a lot of experience on the PC side, we think an Android tablet makes an excellent and portable chart plotter.

Price:  Members only £7.99 (click here to purchase from within members area)  Non-members £14.99

"The stars of the show were the oldish Aurohelm 200 tiller pilot and Nexus 7 tablet (free with my phone) with a £4.50 app and  admiralty charts from Visitmyharbour.com covering the whole of the UK, simply superb, never missed a beat which is more than can be said for the Garmin which has developed back lighting and contrast issues"  Cardiff to E.Coast

Why use an Android tablet ?                                Want a turn key waterproof Sony tablet c/w charts and app ?  See HERE

Because if you get a decent tablet with 10" screen  (like a Samsung), and built in GPS and compass...  using these charts in conjunction with "Marine Navigator" app (buy for about £6 in the Google Play Store) will give you a fully featured chart plotter, that's "stand alone" and complete. No connecting GPS sets, it's all there already.  The charts are fully installed, no internet needed (after installation) , use at sea.  Use in the cockpit or chart table.  You can get waterproof protective cases for the tablet too.  Long battery life, quick start up... what more could you want ?

The Charts:

Made from standard raster charts.  You just can't beat the superb detail of raster charts.   Vector charts do not have the richness of detail, but are seamless.   At VMH we prefer raster every time.  These RASTER charts supplied are dated 1st Jan 2017.

From a white paper by CherSoft, the company who produce "Easy Tide"  for the UKHO.  For a full understanding of the differences between RASTER and VECTOR charts download the white paper

Why "Marine Navigator" ?

Because we've found it to be the most fully featured app available.  In addition to our encrypted charts, it can also use standard BSB2/3 charts you may already have. The designer Ronald Koenig, is responsive and continues to update his app all the time.  This app can even calculate routes using Great Circle or Rhumb lines.

"Marine Navigator is an offline navigator using raster navigational charts (RNC's) to plot your position in real time. This way you can navigate with true copies of official paper charts on your mobile device. This full version of the Marine Navigator provides besides the functionality of the lite version the following enhanced functions:

* automatic chart switching depending on current position and zoom level
* scrolling through all charts available for the current location by "press and hold" zoom buttons
* display of number of available charts for current location in the zoom buttons
* display of outlines of installed charts in active chart
* chart rotation (True North, True Course, Compass Heading, original chart orientation)
* tracks, way points, routes

* follow route automatically
* intuitive route editor
* gpx import and export of waypoints and routes
* gpx export of tracks
* recording of tracks in active and standby mode
* length of recorded tracks only limited by the capacity of the external storage (SDCARD)

* compass (magnetic north, true north)
* different dashboard layouts (basic data, detailed route data, detailed GPS data including graphical status info)
* Man Over Board (MOB) functions"

Our favourite feature so far:  Being able to point the tablet at the bows, "Compass Up", and having the "True Course Line" switched on.  This show as a dotted line stretching ahead the CMG by the boat.  So "at a glance" the navigator can see how much the current is having an effect on the boat at that instant. (Or leeway for that matter).

The "Compass Up" feature also allows you to positively identify buoys or seamarks from a distance, by lining them up with the tablet/phone.

How easy is it to install this downloaded chartset ?

Being sold separately from the app, (we make the charts, NOT the app) and not available in the Play Store means you have to install these yourself.  It's not difficult, the whole process inc. download can be now done on the Android device. It's a bit like 2 part paint, you have the body (the chartset) and the catalyst (small token that comes from us separately upon activation).  The 2 are combined in the Android device and it's ready to use.  Purchasers of this download are entitled to TWO Android installations (subject to EULA terms).  The chartset does not expire, but you are encouraged to renew yearly.

Step 1

Download a PDF of the installation instructions HERE

Suggestion:  Print this off and have to hand as installing. Read the installation instructions, gather together everything required.

"The End User License Agreement (EULA) is appended to the installation instructions  make sure you read and understand this before purchase, IN PARTICULAR note you must do all installations within 12 months of ORIGINAL purchase"

Step 2   (download before you pay)

NOW  download the 1 Gb UK/IRL  ENCRYPTED chartset (Broadband connection needed) direct to your Android device      TAP HERE

NOT FOR UPDATING EXISTING INSTALLATIONS

Download time 15-30 mins on broadband. These charts are no use in any other app or program, and remain encrypted and un-useable untill activated by us.

You can get the installation process done BEFORE paying.  Follow the instructions in the PDF enclosed up to the point that Marine Navigator prepares an authorisation email asking for your PayPal receipt number.  Instead of sending the email, save it in Drafts.  Use back button to return to the app.  You should now see the outlines of all the charts you've just installed. (if you loose that authorisation email, don't worry the app can issue another one)

Use this web-page to go to the secure shopping cart and pay the £14.99. OR if you're a full member of VisitMyHarbour use the other link which will take you into the Members area (if logged on), where you can pay just £7.99.   Collect your shopping cart receipt with unique transaction ID (eg: RCxxxxxxxxxxx) at the email address you give.  Use this transaction ID in the authorisation email the app will generate instead of the PayPal unique transaction ID the email will ask for.

Now send the authorisation email from your Android device, after filling in the details required.  You can add into the body of the email an extra email address you'd like us to send the unlock token to if required (one you can collect on your PC if required).

Once you receive the reply from us, carry on with the instruction sheet, you're almost done !

Apart from the charts, you will need to purchase the LATEST PAID VERSION of  "Marine Navigator" app, by Ronald Koenig directly from your Android device, availabe at the Google Play Store for about £6.50.  Marine Navigator is not restricted to just using our licensed and encrypted charts, but can use any BSB2/3 charts you may already have. If you've been using an earlier version, go to PlayStore and update to the latest version for free.

DO NOT pay until you've read and understood the installation process, AND you're at the activation stage.

Step 3  Pay and activate your charts

By purchasing, you are confirming you have read and agreed  to the end user license agreement EULA

FEEDBACK:

"Just a short note to say thank you.

Today I took the plunge and downloaded the UK/Iberia charts for Android and got them installed on our tablet, along with the Marine Navigator app. Whilst there was a little bit of head scratching, that was mostly down to not understanding the Marine Navigator app, and nothing to do with the charts. Once we'd got the app sussed, we were off. I have to say that the chart coverage and detail is excellent, and it's lovely to have raster charts that look like the "proper" paper charts rather than a vector "computer display" version. Also the move to the high resolution display on the tablet is a big step up after the little 2" display on my Garmin handheld GPS.

All in all, it looks like it will be a great help. Whilst I'd never rely on a tablet to navigate my boat, it's another option and looks great for route planning and such like. We'll give it a real test in a couple of weeks when we're cruising from here (Lagos, Portugal) up to Porto.

Thanks to everyone who's worked on it, and thanks for providing such useful stuff for reasonable prices.

Regards,
TW"

"No problem installing apart from the slow transfer to the nexus, usb2, will there be further European charts?"

"Excellent, Many Thanks.

For info It all looks (initially) Ok on my Nexus 7 with 4.2.2

A couple of observations on your installation pdf.

1. You need Marine Navigator "proper" not the free Marine Navigator Lite.
2. Within the installation pdf. The page that begins "Once Loaded". "Now you see the chart list, each has a padlock symbol". My installation had defaulted to the "Short List" view, so they weren't there! Until I pressed on "All charts".

Hope this helps."

"I know it does not mean much these days but thanks for the excellent support.  I had these charts up and running in no time. For feedback purposes I have it running on a Galaxy Note a mini tablet/mobile phone device by Samsung and all seems well at the present …Many Thanks  Kevin Willmoth"

"Steve - I have left a well-deserved 5 star comment on Play Store today. I hope it is of benefit to both Ronald and visitmyharbour!  Best wishes, Andrew Mcintyre"

"I wanted to thank you for your excellent service. Firstly I did not expect a reply to my activation request on a Sunday of a Bank holiday weekend. This within 1 hour!
Secondly, not being completely computer literate, the help, when I had a problem getting going. My fault! I can now tell you I have used the product in "real life" and can report how pleased I am,  ease of use, great value.
Thank you again all at VisitMyHarbour
