BMYC trials reduced dog-friendly hours

VMH roving reporter Captain Herbert brings you breaking news from Brighton Marina Yacht Club as it trials shorter dog‑visiting hours.

Ahoy there, marina mateys! Captain Herbert reporting for duty.

I’ve been padding around the pontoons this week, nose in the breeze and ears at full mast, when some news drifted my way from the Yacht Club at Brighton Marina. It seems the humans have introduced a small summer trial that affects all us deckhounds.

From now on, dogs are welcome in The Clubhouse until 6pm. After that, it’s humans only. During visiting hours we’re asked to stay on a lead, keep our voices down, behave impeccably, and, this one stings, no snacks inside the clubhouse. Not even a stray chip. Apparently it’s “for the good of everyone", though I suspect it’s mainly for the good of the flooring!

The club also shared a few general etiquette reminders for members: shirts on, hats off, no beachwear indoors, quiet phone calls, and respectful conversation. All very sensible, even if my own dress code consists of fur and the occasional outing in my doggy Dry Robe on a damp day.

We’ve been in touch with the Yacht Club to understand the change, and it’s been confirmed as a trial period for now. The team at BMYC will be reviewing how it goes over the busy summer season.

As for me? I’ll be sticking to the rules, wagging politely, and making the most of my pre‑6pm clubhouse strolls. A salty sea dog must adapt, especially when gravy bones are at stake.

Stay salty,
Captain Herbert ⚓🐾
